At Iterum, the organisation behind Psych Safety, we are passionate about making the world of work a safer, higher performing, more inclusive and equitable place. While certifications have their place in some industries, we believe that when it comes to psychological safety, traditional certifications do not serve the best interests of professionals, organisations, or humanity. Here’s why we take a different approach.
We don’t believe that a single organisation should be able to define a universal set of skills and knowledge necessary to be “certified” in psychological safety. The field is inherently complex and multifaceted, varying greatly across different industries, contexts, cultures, and organisational structures. Imposing a standardised certification risks oversimplifying these nuances and would not adequately prepare individuals for real-world application.
Psychological safety is a dynamic and multi-disciplinary field characterised by continuous research, evolving theories, and emerging best practices. What was considered best practice yesterday might be enhanced or entirely superseded by new findings today. Traditional certifications often rely on static curricula that quickly become outdated. We always want to be able to offer the most up-to-date and relevant learning opportunities for you.
Certifications tend to codify knowledge into a fixed framework, which can inadvertently stifle innovation and adaptability. We believe that true mastery comes from ongoing learning, reflection and the ability to adapt to new challenges and information. Through a more discursive, collaborative and open approach to learning, we encourage you to develop your own deep and evolving understanding, as well as to build greater discernment and criticality around what work in different contexts. It is this that will support you to do work which is truly meaningful and has impact in the world.
